Laura Kowalczyk Richards

Laura Kowalczyk Richards is a former elementary school teacher and the blessed mother of four incredible children, Jolie, Caroline, Caelin and Jake. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Public Relations with a minor in Marketing and a Masters degree in Education with a Teacher Certification for grades Preschool through 8th. As an adoptive mother, Guess Who's Adopted? is truly a labor of love! Laura created this happy, positive book for the sole purpose of gently reaching out to adopted children who often privately contemplate the many curiosities being adopted holds.

When Jolie, Laura's firstborn and adopted daughter, was a little girl, the two would play a verbal game of "Guess Who Else Is Adopted?!". Over time, their special childhood game evolved into this amazing book! Guess Who's Adopted? is designed to offer a happy place for adopted children to go where they can align with super star adoptees and dream of what their future holds!

As a mother, Laura experienced, firsthand, how exciting it was for Jolie to learn about famous adoptees. Acknowledging their family dynamics in a loving, open, fun-filled way proved to be positive for Jolie. She thinks its "cool" and feels pride in her place in the family.

As a teacher, Laura professionally understands the importance of celebrating diversity. She believes exposing children to the differences the world holds can help them to be a kinder more compassionate group of human beings now and in the future. Consciously reaching out to one another and celebrating diversity is the first step in teaching acceptance. Laura implemented this theory in the classroom and does the same as a mother and a writer.

Laura and her family live in Northern Virginia and enjoy reading, music, dancing and all sports! She is completing her second book in the Guess Who's series, Guess Who's A Multiple? and will continue to create Guess Who's books to cover many unique, diversity topics for children.
